A Day Among Ancient Kings
and Living Legends

A full-day journey from Alexandria to Cairo’s essential monuments — the pyramids of Giza, the Grand Egyptian Museum, and the Citadel overlooking Islamic Cairo. The day moves through three defining eras of Egyptian history: the Old Kingdom’s monumental horizon at Giza, the modern archaeological narrative of the GEM, and the medieval stronghold that shaped the skyline of Islamic Cairo. Designed for cruise passengers arriving through Alexandria Port, the experience begins and ends with private transfers, allowing the entire day to unfold smoothly, comfortably, and without rush before your return to the ship.

ITINERARY

Early Morning Pickup — Alexandria Port
Your private Egyptologist and driver will meet you at the port for a comfortable journey in a private air-conditioned vehicle to Cairo, a drive of approximately 3 hours.

Stop 1 — The Giza Plateau
Egypt’s most iconic archaeological site. It represents the height of Old Kingdom royal architecture and remains one of the best-preserved monumental landscapes of the ancient world.

Highlights

  • The Great Pyramid of Cheops
The only surviving Wonder of the Ancient World, a masterpiece of precision engineering and royal ambition. Stand before its immense limestone blocks, aligned to the stars with astonishing accuracy, and learn how this monumental structure has challenged historians, architects, and explorers for centuries.

  • The Pyramids of Chephren and Mykerinus
The elegant companions to the Great Pyramid, each reflecting its own architectural character and royal legacy. Chephren’s pyramid still preserves traces of its original casing at the summit, while the smaller but finely proportioned pyramid of Mykerinus offers a quieter glimpse into the evolution of pyramid design in the Old Kingdom.

  • The Great Sphinx
Carved from a single block of limestone, its human face and lion’s body symbolizing wisdom and strength. Hear the legends that surround this ancient guardian and the mysteries it has silently kept for over 4,000 years.

  • The Valley Temple
A beautifully preserved site that once played a vital role in royal purification and mummification rituals. The temple’s massive stone blocks and polished floors still echo the power and reverence of Egypt’s Old Kingdom.

Stop 2 — The Grand Egyptian Museum
Egypt’s newest archaeological landmark, designed to showcase the country’s heritage in a modern, spacious setting overlooking the Giza Plateau. Its galleries present thousands of artifacts — including the full Tutankhamun collection — arranged to trace Egypt’s history with clarity and scale.

Stop 3 — The Citadel of Salah El Din
Cairo’s great medieval stronghold, rising atop Mokattam Hill on the city’s eastern edge. A fortified complex overlooking the old urban core, with sweeping views across Cairo’s historic districts, minarets, and rooftops. Built in the 12th century as the heart of the city’s defense system, the Citadel stands today as one of Egypt’s most commanding architectural landmarks — a clear vantage point for understanding the scale, history, and layered structure of Islamic Cairo.

Highlights

  • The Mohammed Ali Mosque
An Ottoman-era landmark within the Citadel — alabaster-clad interiors, high domes, delicate lanterns, and a vast prayer hall framed by panoramic views across the city. A defining silhouette in Cairo’s skyline and a central monument of Islamic architecture.

  • Mosque of al-Nasir Muhammad
The Mamluk royal mosque of the Citadel, built in 1318 and used for centuries as the sultans’ ceremonial Friday mosque. Distinguished by its green-tiled dome, carved stucco, and elegant minarets, it offers a direct link to Cairo’s medieval architectural core and the functional heart of the fortress.
