ABU SIMBEL
FROM ASWAN
Where Monuments of the Gods
Touch the Sun
Travel south through the golden desert to one of Egypt’s most awe-inspiring monuments — the temples of Abu Simbel. Carved into the cliffs by Pharaoh Ramesses II over 3,000 years ago, these masterpieces of devotion and power were designed to honor both the gods and the pharaoh himself. The Great Temple of Ramesses II and the Temple of Queen Nefertari stand as eternal testaments to love, legacy, and divine kingship — their colossal statues watching over the sacred waters of Lake Nasser.
ITINERARY
Early Morning Pickup — Aswan Hotel or Nile Cruise
Your private Egyptologist and driver will pick you up early in the morning from your hotel or Nile cruise in Aswan. Enjoy a scenic drive of approximately 3.5 hours through the peaceful desert landscapes leading toward Abu Simbel, near Egypt’s southern border.
Stop 1 — The Great Temple of Ramesses II
One of Egypt’s grandest temples, carved directly into the sandstone cliffs. The four colossal statues of Ramesses II greet the rising sun each day — a symbol of his divine connection. Inside, intricate reliefs depict his triumph at the Battle of Kadesh and his devotion to the gods Ra-Horakhty, Amun-Ra, and Ptah.
Stop 2 — The Temple of Queen Nefertari
Just north of the Great Temple lies the smaller but equally magnificent temple dedicated to Queen Nefertari, beloved wife of Ramesses II. Rarely in ancient Egypt was a queen depicted equal in stature to her pharaoh — a testament to Nefertari’s influence and grace.
Return Transfer — Aswan Hotel or Nile Cruise
After exploring these breathtaking temples, relax as your private driver brings you back to Aswan on the 3.5-hour drive, returning you comfortably to your hotel or Nile cruise as the desert stretches endlessly under the afternoon sun.
