ABU SIMBEL
FROM ASWAN
BY FLIGHT
Where the Sun Illuminates
the Gods
Fly across the desert to one of Egypt’s most magnificent wonders — the temples of Abu Simbel. Carved into sandstone cliffs over 3,000 years ago, the Great Temple of Ramesses II, perfectly aligned with the rising sun, honors both the pharaoh and Egypt’s chief gods. Nearby, the Temple of Queen Nefertari stands as a rare and tender tribute to his beloved queen. A marvel of ancient grandeur and modern preservation, Abu Simbel was relocated stone by stone by UNESCO to save it from the rising waters of Lake Nasser — ensuring its eternal place among the world’s greatest monuments.

Flight to Abu Simbel
Enjoy a scenic 45-minute flight across Egypt’s southern desert, watching the sands give way to the sparkling waters of Lake Nasser as you approach one of Egypt’s grandest treasures.
Stop 1 — The Great Temple of Ramesses II
One of Egypt’s grandest temples, carved directly into the sandstone cliffs. The four colossal statues of Ramesses II greet the rising sun each day — a symbol of his divine connection. Inside, intricate reliefs depict his triumph at the Battle of Kadesh and his devotion to the gods Ra-Horakhty, Amun-Ra, and Ptah.
Stop 2 — The Temple of Queen Nefertari
Just north of the Great Temple lies the smaller but equally magnificent temple dedicated to Queen Nefertari, beloved wife of Ramesses II. Rarely in ancient Egypt was a queen depicted equal in stature to her pharaoh — a testament to Nefertari’s influence and grace.
